Who

Toast (Toasttab) builds restaurant technology: point of sale, payments, online ordering and operations management in one joined-up platform. They help restaurants take orders, take payments, and run service smoothly from front of house to back of house. Their UK team is based in central London.

Why

Toast needed a fresh, consistent set of team headshots. Like most fast-growing tech companies, their existing photos had been gathered piecemeal: different backgrounds, different lighting, different quality. They wanted a unified look across their website, LinkedIn profiles and press materials, without losing a full working day to get it done.

How

I spent the day at Toast's London office with a full mobile studio setup. The key was fitting around a busy working day rather than taking over it. We ran a simple structure: core booked slots for people who had set aside time, plus a flexible drop-in window for anyone who suddenly had a gap between meetings.

The team were genuinely welcoming and organised, which made the whole day run smoothly. Each person stepped in, had a few minutes of expression coaching, reviewed their images on screen, and was back at their desk within 15 minutes. No queues, no hanging around.

I used the same lighting and background throughout the day so every portrait sits together as a set. That consistency matters. When a company profile page is made up of lots of different photos it starts to look pieced together, and that is rarely the impression you want to give.

Result

Toast ended up with a complete set of team headshots that look unified across every platform. Same lighting, same background, same quality, whether it is on their website, a LinkedIn banner, or in a press release. The images were delivered within two working days, with each portrait sized for multiple platforms.

The session also sets the standard for future hires. When new people join the team, a quick top-up session gives them a portrait that matches the existing set, so the company's visual identity stays consistent as the team grows.
