How I Help You Look Your Best
How I help you feel comfortable on camera and get a headshot that looks confident, approachable, and like you on a good day.
If you’re even slightly dreading having your photo taken, you’re in good company.
Most professionals I photograph are confident in real life. They’re used to meetings, clients, presentations, and making decisions. But put a camera in front of them and something shifts. Suddenly they’re thinking about their smile, their chin, their teeth, or that one feature they’re convinced the camera will make worse.
So the first thing I do is reassure you. You don’t need to arrive knowing how to pose. You don’t need to “be photogenic”. You just need to turn up. I’ll take care of the rest.
It’s not really a portrait
A headshot is a photo of you, obviously, but it isn’t a traditional portrait in the fine art sense. It’s closer to a marketing image.
It’s there to do a job. It needs to show you as someone people can trust and feel comfortable approaching. It should feel like you on a good day. Calm. Capable. Confident.
That’s what we’re aiming for.
I guide you, step by step
Most awkward headshots happen for one simple reason: people don’t know what to do with their face.
They’re trying to “look confident” while also thinking about whether they’re smiling too much, not smiling enough, whether they look tired, whether their eyes look odd, whether their chin is doing that thing again.
So I make it simple.
Whether you are having an individual headshot session, or having corporate team headshots, I do the same thing.
I’ll guide you through small adjustments to posture, shoulders, head position and expression. Nothing dramatic. No big poses. Just tiny shifts that change how the camera reads you. Once you’ve got clear direction, you can stop thinking so hard, and that’s when your expression starts to settle.
The lighting is your friend
Good lighting is flattering, full stop. It’s also the difference between a headshot that feels clean and professional, and one that feels a bit harsh or accidental.
I my signature lighting because it’s consistent and kind to your face. It helps avoid hard shadows, keeps skin looking natural, and reduces the things people often fixate on. It still looks like you, but it’s doing a lot behind the scenes to help you look your best.
We keep it relaxed, and we usually have a laugh
This might be the most important part.
When people are tense, it shows. The face tightens, the smile goes rigid, the eyes look guarded. But when the atmosphere is relaxed, something changes. People start to look more like themselves. Their expression warms up. Their personality starts to come through.
I’m always chatting as we go, keeping it light, and giving you clear feedback. And yes, we often have a laugh. That’s not a gimmick, it’s just what happens when the pressure drops.
I’m watching for the right moment
The best headshots are rarely the ones where someone is trying to “hold” a smile.
They’re usually the moment just after. When the face relaxes. When the eyes engage. When the expression feels real.
That’s what I’m looking for throughout the session. I’m not just taking photos and hoping for the best. I’m watching the tiny shifts that show your personality at its best, and capturing the moment it appears.
You’ll see the photos as we go
We shoot tethered, so you’ll be able to see what we’re getting on a screen as we go along.
That’s reassuring in itself. It also means you can quickly see what suits you. We can make small tweaks in real time, rather than guessing. You’re part of the process, and you’ll know when we’ve got it.
We choose your favourites together
Before I leave, we’ll narrow it down together so you’re not left trawling through loads of near-identical options later.
Once you’ve chosen your favourites, your final retouched images are delivered within 2 working days.
