After Your Headshot Session: What Happens Next?

You’ve done the hard bit. Now you want to know what happens next, what you’ll actually receive for LinkedIn and your website. Here’s the full process, step by step.

If you’ve ever had photos taken and then waited days (or weeks) with that slightly sick feeling of “I hope there’s at least one I can use”, this will feel different. You’ll see your images as we go, you’ll know what you’re getting, and you’ll receive finished files in formats that work.

1) We review your photos straight away

During your session, you’ll see your images as we go. That means you’re not guessing how you look or hoping for the best.

I’ll guide you through what’s working (expression, posture, angles, and the small adjustments that make a big difference), and we’ll narrow things down together. Most people find this is the moment the nerves disappear, because you can see that you look like you.

2) You choose the images you want to keep

There are a couple of ways photographers handle selection. Some people prefer choosing later from a gallery, others like deciding while everything’s fresh.

In my sessions, we usually narrow things down together on the day, so you’re not left second-guessing it afterwards. I’ll help you spot the images that feel natural and confident, and that read well at thumbnail size.

People often choose:

One main LinkedIn image

that works at thumbnail size

One slightly more formal option

for company websites

One that’s a touch more relaxed

for personal branding

3) Your selected images are professionally retouched

Retouching should never turn you into someone else. My approach is simple: remove distractions, keep you looking like you on a really good day.

This usually means:

Removing temporary blemishes and marks

Reducing shine where it pulls attention

Tidying small flyaways if they’re distracting

Keeping skin texture natural

If you wear glasses, I’ll also watch for anything that pulls attention, like glare or reflections.

If you have something specific you’re self-conscious about, tell me. It’s always easier to handle when I know.

4) You receive your files in the formats you’ll actually use

Everything is delivered in both colour and black and white, with sensible file sizes for fast loading and easy sharing.

Your delivered set includes:

High-resolution original (5000px)

Best quality for print, press packs, and archiving.

Website (2400px)

A clean, high-quality file that looks great on modern sites.

Social profile (square)

Perfect for LinkedIn and other profile images.

Print sizes (5×7 and 10×8)

Ready for print if you need them for the office or press packs.

If your company has a specific crop or template, tell me and I’ll supply a version that fits it perfectly.

5) Turnaround and delivery

Once you’ve chosen your favourites, your finished images are delivered within 2 working days.

You’ll receive them in a simple download link, ready to use straight away.

What happens next

Along with your finished images, you’ll receive a simple guide on how to use them across LinkedIn, your website, and company platforms.

6) Usage rights (in plain English)

They’re your headshots. Use them wherever you need them for your work: LinkedIn, your website, company profiles, press features, speaking bios, proposals, social media, and internal comms.

Questions after delivery

If you’re not sure which file to use where, or you need a specific crop for a company template, just drop me a message. It’s a quick question, and it’s much easier to get it right before you upload anything.
