Meet Peter
The headshot photographer behind ProHeadshots. I help camera-shy professionals look like the best version of themselves.
The Photographer Behind ProHeadshots
I photograph headshots for professionals and teams. The kind of photos that make people say "that actually looks like me, on a good day."
I've been doing this for about seven years now, and I still hear the same thing at the start of almost every session: "I hate having my photo taken." That's fine. I'd be more surprised if someone walked in and said they loved it. Most people feel awkward in front of a camera, and that's exactly why I do what I do.
What happens during a session
I don't just point a camera and hope for the best. I'll talk you through every expression, adjust small things you wouldn't think of (the angle of your jaw, where your eyes are looking, what to do with your hands) and show you the screen as we go. You'll see the difference in real time, which is usually the moment people start to relax.
That side of things comes from my training with Peter Hurley's Headshot Crew, a global community of headshot photographers who specialise in expression coaching. It changed the way I work. A well lit photo is one thing, but if your expression doesn't feel right, the photo won't either. So that's where most of my attention goes: getting you to a place where you look confident and approachable, without it feeling forced.
"His calm manner helped me relax and I actually ended up enjoying the session — something I never thought I'd say about someone taking photos of me."
The mobile studio
I bring the studio to you. The full setup: professional lighting, backdrops, everything you'd find in a high street studio, packed into flight cases and assembled in your meeting room, office or living room. It takes about half an hour to build and looks the part once it's up. All I need is a room roughly three metres deep with a power socket.
That means no travelling to an unfamiliar studio, no sitting in traffic worrying about being late, and no stiff, uncomfortable environment. You're on your own ground, which makes a real difference to how relaxed you feel in the photos.
"The headshot he took of me is hands down the best I've ever had — professional, flattering, and genuinely reflective of me. Peter is not only incredibly skilled behind the camera, but also brilliant at managing people."
Who I work with
I'm based in Exeter and work with individuals and corporate teams across Devon, the South West, London and the rest of the UK. Some clients need one headshot for LinkedIn. Others need 200 for a company rebrand. The approach is the same either way: relaxed, guided, and done properly. You choose your favourites during the session, and finished images land in your inbox within two working days.
When I'm not photographing people, I'm usually somewhere on a clifftop or a moor with a tripod. Captured Isle is my personal fine art project: landscape photography across the British Isles. Coastlines, ancient woodland, standing stones. Different work, but the same eye.
"Very approachable and quickly puts people at ease with a ready smile and good sense of humour."
If you call and I don't pick up, I'm either with a client or halfway up a mountain. Drop me a message through the contact form and I'll get back to you the same day.
